This year I'm joined by my business partner Tim and Captain Les on my 33' Boston Whaler for the 120-mile run to Marathon from my home base of Fort Myers, Florida for four days of chasing pelagics out of the Florida Keys. Mahi & Tuna in the Florida Keys
This week we are down in the Florida Keys on my boat BIG SKY BREAK chasing pelagic fish. While running 30 miles off shore from Marathon to Key West we stumble across a needle in a haystack. We spotted a small plastic and nylon construction bag in the middle of the Atlantic holding literally dozens of Mahi Mahi, Triple Tail and to our annoyance, schools of Banded Rudder Fish. My business partner Tim and I jumped on fly rods and threw an assortment of clouser minnows in various colors but the fly they could not get enough of was my own creation, the Mahi Candy Fly. It's a baby Mahi pattern made for just such occasions and it did not disappoint. We caught Mahi on fly rods till we got bored. In other videos we catch Mahi trolling on this fly. 30-Mahi Day on Fly Rods
Running my Boston Whaler 330 Outrage from Marathon to Key West we find floating construction debris holding dozens of Mahi Mahi, Triple Tail and Banded Rudder Fish. We spend two solid hours catching fish on fly rods fishing the Mahi Candy Fly. We landed at least 30 Mahi on fly rods.

If you fish for pelagic fish on a fly rod, know how to tie the Mahi Candy Fly. Tuna, sailfish and especially adult Mahi Mahi will attack this fly faster than you can say cannibalism. The fly imitates a baby dolphin fish and is irresistible to long-haul species of fish.

Are permit not taking your crab flies? Try a cuttlefish pattern when they seem extra sensitive to standard fly patterns. This fly looks like a cuttlefish or small squid and can often break the stalemate on slow days.

While fly fishing into the wind I buried a #4 hook in my neck. This is usually not such a big deal but I had forgot to pinch the barb so I have to resort to a tried and true fisherman's remedy that everyone who fishes should know. Not for the faint of heart and some bleeding. Maybe a bit gross.

While fishing in the Amazon for Peacock Bass my fishing partner and I hooked up on a nice double. I landed mine first, a somewhat rare species, Temensis, and released it. Our guide noted that a pink dolphin had tried to poach my partners fish as he fought it. After fast action, the mother dolphin grabbed my original peacock bass because it was tired. 12 Things I Learned in the Amazon
This is the second of a two part video chasing Peacock Bass and Arapaima on fly rods with barbless hooks. We are at the Agua Boa Lodge and Resort that is carved out of Brazil's Amazon Jungle. This is a fly-in destination where we fished a 100-mile stretch of the Auga Boa River, a major tributary of the Amazon River. I tied all my own flies for the trip and flew from Miami to Sao Paulo then back to Manaus, Brazil. I flew into Brazil's Amazon Rainforest for a week of fly fishing for Peacock Bass. Join me as I explore the reserve at Agua Boa Resort and chase massive peacock bass and Arapaima on barbless flies. I fished a 100-mile stretch of the Agua Boa River and caught more than 100 big fish during the week on 8 and 9 weight rods. The group enjoyed an immersion into the rainforest but came back to an oasis carved from the jungle that is the Auga Boa Lodge and Resort. We ran across weird animals such as the Capybara and Agouti and saw dozens of species of birds including Macaw and Toucan.
